Ambroxol Tablets are utilised for conditions where there is a lot of thick mucus in the airway passages. Ambroxol belongs to a group of medications known as mucolytic. Ambroxol works by thinning down the mucus in the airway passages, hence making the mucus less sticky and it also facilitates the removal of the mucus from the airways.
Ambroxol Uses: Ambroxol is used in the treatment of respiratory tract disorders related to viscid mucus.
How Ambroxol works
Ambroxol is a mucolytic medication. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the nose, windpipe and lungs making it painless to cough out.
Composition: Each tablet holds ambroxol hydrochloride 30 mg; every 5 ml of the syrup contains ambroxol hydrochloride 15 mg.
Ambroxol Dosage
Adults: An everyday dose of 30 mg (one Ambroxol tablet ) to 120 mg (4 Ambroxol tablets) taken in 2 to 3 divided doses
For children up to 2 years: half a teaspoonful of Ambroxol syrup should be taken twice on an everyday basis
Children 2 - 5 years: half a teaspoonful of Ambroxol syrup should be taken 3 times on an everyday basis
Children over 5 years: One teaspoonful of Ambroxol syrup 2-3 times everyday.

Precautions
If you have any of the following conditions or symptoms, medical advice proceeding to use should be sought:
Symptoms suggestive of pneumonia or other alveolus infections (e.g. trouble breathing while sleeping, thick yellow or green mucus, blood-stained mucus, high-grade fever above 38 °C, chest pain), low immune system symptoms due to other health conditions (e.g. HIV) or drugs (e.g. chemotherapy, medication of the immune system) or current lung conditions like COLD (chronic obstruction)
If you have serious gastric ulceration, or liver or kidney issues, inform your healthcare professionals.
If you have a confirmed history of an allergy to ambroxol or bromhexine or any of the other ingredients mentioned in the medicine, this drug should be eluded. Some ambroxol tablets can hold lactose as an inactive ingredient, so people who have inherited galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency (lactose digestive enzyme) or galactose absorption problems are not advised to take them.
It is not suggested to use Ambroxol during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is not suggested to take ambroxol when breastfeeding, as ambroxol is excreted in breast milk.
Before having this drug, please seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Missed Dose: If you forget a dose, use this drug as soon as you find it. Skip the missed dose and restart your dosing plan if it is close to the time of your next dose. Do not use an extra dose to make up for the missing dose.
Try setting an alarm or asking a family member to alert you if you are regularly skipping doses. If you have missed numerous doses lately, please contact your physician to propose adjustments in your dosing plan or a new schedule to make up for missed doses.
Overdose: Do not take more than the dosage given. Your symptoms will not be swapped by taking more medication; they can instead cause poisoning or severe side effects. If you are confident that you or someone else might have overdosed on Ambroxol Hydrochloride Syrup, please go to the close-by hospital or nursing home emergency room.
Bring with you a medication box, bottle, or mark to support doctors with the details required. Even if you know they have the same disorder or it seems like they may have alike conditions do not give your drugs to other people. This can contribute to overdose.
